New Build House- North London

Hemp-Limeconstruct, Main Contractor, have begun construction of a very interesting new build house. The house features timber frame, hempcrete walls, a circular room topped with a glu-lam circular beam, radiant curved walls and lots more.

The timber structure is now complete and the roof membrane is on, next comes the hempcrete!

Oak Framed House

We have now completed the internal finishes and will be lime rendering externally during May.

The oak frame sits inside the hempcrete, the two do not ever touch, instead the oak frame is connected to the stud work of the hempcrete with timber noggins hidden behind the frame, these will not be visable.

Self Build Extension

Hemp-LimeConstruct provided consultancy and on-site training to the self build couple who are building a hempcrete extension to their Cob house.

4C Community Centre

Hemp-LimeConstruct built part of the roof structure and the walls, including the timber framing, of this community centre in Ashton-Under-Lynne. For more information visit http://www.4ccommunitycentre.org.uk/.

Hempcrete Breathable Solid Floor

Solid insulated hempcrete floor as part of a Victorian Terrrace refurbishment and extension in London. The floor exceeds building regulations in terms of its thermal performance and will be finished with solid oak boards.

A layer of coated LECA (light expanded clay aggregate), that repels water, acts as a damp proof membrane and adds extra insulation, is layed first. A stronger than normal hempcrete mix is the structural floor and insulation. The floor can be finished with a lime screed, tiles on lime mortar or timber.

Oxfordshire, Historic Barn Renovation

Hemp-LimeConstruct was appointed for all specialist lime works to this half-timbered historic barn. All existing wall panels between timbers were cement render on chicken wire and causing rot to the Elm frame. The panels were removed and replaced with Hempcrete rendered in lime externally and plastered in lime internally. Internal walls were also Hempcrete and plastered in lime.

Buckinghamshire, Garden Workshop

This garden workshop was designed and constructed to a high specification by Hemp-limeConstruct and features:

  • 250mm thick hempcrete walls
  • Lime finishes internally and externally
  • Living roof
  • Bi-fold doors
  • Reclaimed oak decking and posts
  • Heat exchange ventilation unit
  • Low energy light fittings

Sheffield, Extension to Victorian mid-terraced property

This extension was designed by Hemp-LimeConstruct, we also provided all building control drawings, trained the owner/self-builder and providing on site assistance as required.

A conventional brick and block construction was originally planned, however after digging had commenced the ground was found to be too unstable for strip foundations and a raft foundation was considered. Quotes for a raft foundation for a heavy structure on the unstable ground, which turned out to be an old river bed from a diverted river, proved too expensive.

The solution was a lighter structure of Hempcrete cast around a timber frame and the cost of the raft foundation was reduced by 75%.

The extension has 300mm thick hempcrete walls with a U-value of 0.19. The hempcrete was cast around a simple softwood frame using temporary shuttering.
